Description

The Eclipse ODU 300 is a compact, high performance Radio Frequency Unit (RFU) for split-mount microwave applications in frequency bands from 6 to 38 GHz. Environmentally hardened to withstand the toughest conditions, the ODU 300 is designed for maximum reliability, portability and ease of installation.

The ODU 300 is fully transparent to the transmitted payload, supporting any type of traffic, all-IP/Ethernet, all-TDM, or hybrid mixed mode Ethernet alongside TDM. By supporting modulations from QPSK through to 256 QAM, the ODU 300 can support data throughputs up to 462 Mbit/s across any microwave link.

Network designers appreciate the flexibility derived from high transmit power and low receiver threshold performance of the ODU 300 for multiple deployment scenarios in their network - maximum system gain enables longer paths, higher capacity, smaller antennas or a combination of all three.

Designed for split mount installations in conjunction with the Eclipse Packet Node INU/INUe or the compact IDU GE3 16x indoor units, the ODU 300 mounts directly behind the antenna to eliminate waveguide connection losses. A built-in lightning arrestor further protects the unit against lightning strikes without the need for costly external devices.

The Eclipse ODU 300 is designed for maximum reliability, even in the toughest conditions. With its efficient heat dissipation, and fully sealed against the worst outdoor conditions, the ODU 300 has proven field MTBF well in excess of 100 years.

Intelligent Node Unit (INU)

The Intelligent Node Unit (INU) enables the wireless node architecture. The modular concept allows a simple terminal to evolve to a complex node thanks to the use of hot-swappable plug-in cards. The INU is available in 1RU (rack unit - height dimension) and 2RU version that respectively support 3 or 6 outdoor units. Within this INU, all traffic will internally be routed in such a way that all of the external patch panels and cabling become obsolete.

You can use a number of plug-in cards per INU.

NCC Node Controller Card
The NCC controls whether the node functions well and is hte hearth of the INU. It contains the configuration and license files.

NPC Node Protection Card
Takes care of the redundancy of the NCC, power supply and the TDM bus. Takes over the functions of the NCC when it fails.

Combine It All
It is of course possible to put several DAC cards in one and the same INU offering you a very flexible interface to your network. The same applies to the RAC cards to build up a complex node with connections to several locations. The Ethernet DAC has 4 Ethernet ports that internally are connected to a 4-port switch that supports QoS. When e.g. you would install an 8xE1 E1 DAC and you have a total capacity of 32xE1 (64Mbps), then you can preserve 16 Mbps to 8xE1 and the other 48 Mbps will be divided over the Ethernet interfaces. When you would use two of those, you can preserve 24 Mbps for both channels. This is configurable via the software.


Indoor Unit
The Eclipse Indoor Unit (IDU) is a 1RU device fitted for 4/8xE1, 4/8/16xE1, DAC ES or DAC GE 20X, non-protected (no fail-over), configurations. Only the DAC GE 20x version offers redundancy or the possibility to combine the throughput of two links.


Protection
Protected configurations Eclipse supports 1+1 protected and diversity configurations with one single INU. This INU will then be equipped with two RAC (Radio Access Card) cards, each of which is connected to an ODU and a DAC (Data Access Card). For reasons of redundancy, the INU can be equipped with an NPC enabling redundancy on power supply and NCC (Network Controller Card) level. In order to have hot-stand-by and diversity, there are seamless interchanges between both ODU’s. This also happens when sending data.

Space diversity requires two ODU’s, both of which have an antenna. Hot-stand-by and frequency diversity are supported via a direct-mount combiner that combines both ODU’s on one single antenna. The combiner is available with an equal 3 - 3dB split or an unequal 6 - 1,5dB coupler. Space and frequency diversity can be combined in order to represent a hybrid diversity scheme.
